The Java programming language and the Java Development Kit come from Sun Microsystems (now owned by Oracle).

Here are the most important items of Java documentation:

• API Docs version 1.6 (Available to GU users only. If you are somewhere else try here or use the GU VPN.) This documents java compilers and other tools as well as all of the java packages such as java.lang, java.awt and java.io.
• The Java Tutorial This is a big tutorial for learning Java, however it does assume you have programmed in some other language before.
