The Foal Friends

by Dominique Dietz

Star galloped across the pasture. Lollipop and Raffles followed. The heard was running. They were running from the stallion, Smokey. He was the meanest. He never let any of the mares or foals alone, especially the foals. That is because he knew that if he captured a foal, he got a mare. Luckily, Smokey never went on the other side. Because to get to the other side you had to cross a river. And Smokey did not like water one bit, only if it was bath water. Mom, I'm hungry. Star complained. Beauty, Stars' mother answered back. We all are.
