There is a children's movie about a family. In the very beginning of this
movie, most of the family is brutally murdered by an uncaring monster while the
father is helpless to stop it.  His wife and children are slaughtered
wholesale.  Only a single child is left alive, but badly injured and
permanently crippled.

A while later, that sole surviving disabled child is abducted by an alien who
keeps it locked up and on display in a zoo. This alien even intends to give the
child as a gift to a known killer who is gleeful while killing their victims.

The child nearly dies in a futile attempt to escape his captivity and certainly
impending death.  He and his cell mates even resort to poisoning their own cage
in another futile attempt at escape.

Though the real meat of the story here is the father’s heroic attempts as he
tries against great odds to rescue his child, and the wierd friendships he
develops along the way.  It also has a great underlying story about never
giving up despite the odds...
