------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Heinrich Zepter" To: "'Sage-Au'" Subject: [SAGE-AU] [Summary] Fire Proof Safes Date: Fri, 19 Apr 2002 12:19:03 +1000 Thanks to all those who replied: Don Gingrich, Colin Riddel, Bob Purdon, Luke Mewburn, David Freeman, Robert Brockway, Matthew Wilkinson. The general consensus is that there are no real fire proof safes at an affordable level. If you have lots of money to throw at a large, expensive safe, you could head that way. For us SMEs, it is not really viable. So called fire proof safes protect items from burning, but have a tendancy to heat up inside, so contents like CDs, tapes and disks either warp or melt. Not good! Making multiple back ups and storing off site is logical and wise, but in our case, not an option (don't ask!). Colin provided me a contact: Rosemary at London Fire & Safe 07 3391 4141. I had a chat to her and she provided some good solutions. The best option is to purchase a 'Fire Cooler' from some one like Chubb for around $1,500 - $2,000. This acts like an esky, where the contents will not exceed a temp of 38 degrees C, for one hour, in a fire of 927 degrees C. Then place this 'esky' in a so called fire proof safe, that will offer some further protection and security. There are many other factors to take into consideration, placement of safe, buildings fire prevention system, and so on. Just hope the fire trucks arrive quickly :) Other info supplied by kind Sages: http://www.bsafe.com.au http://www.officeworks.com.au/ http://www.chubb.com.au/ Thanks again Heinrich Zepter IT Manager - Data & Programming hoo marketing pty ltd -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
